When My Students Decide To Get Dressed Up…
One of my more humourous realizations from my first days in Rwanda is that when a Rwandan tells you you’re ‘smart’, what (s)he’s actually saying is that you’re well-dressed. My current favourite response to this is Iyo umbona ejo, which means, “You should’ve seen me yesterday!”.
Because I work for an academic institution, most of the people I encounter daily are students, dressed as you’d expect college students to be. It’s always fun to see them looking smart, as they would say. The photos below were taking from a community event we hosed last year, and last year’s graduation. Enjoy!
